Concerning Medication Synchronization For Patients Who Are Prescribed Multiple Medications.
The bill requires health insurance carriers offering health coverage plans that provide prescription drug coverage to offer to covered persons medication synchronization services that align the refill dates for multiple prescription medications. Carriers are permitted to develop their own medication synchronization plans but are required to:
- Apply the normal copayment amount applicable under the health coverage plan when a prescription drug is dispensed in a quantity less than the prescribed amount as long as the prescription drug is dispensed in accordance with the carrier's medication synchronization services by a network pharmacy; and
- Provide a full dispensing fee to the pharmacy that dispenses the medication.
